Besides the work to erect this building and its dual drive-through lanes, a restaurant will be added on the south end, next to Global Brew with its own pick-up window for the single-lane drive-through already present.

Crews have recently dug out a hole in the parking lot of the Ironworks development along Plum Street. The space will bcome the foundation for a new, two-story office building anchored by Granite City Credit Union.

There is a new hole in the ground at the Ironworks development that used to be grass and bare ground. Soon, the freshly dug out space will form the basement for a new, 10,000-square-foot office building anchored by Granite City Steel Credit Union (GCS).

The development on Plum Street is also home to Chicken Salad Chick, Strange Donuts, Sugarfire Smokehouse, Global Brew, Just Right Eating and Waxing the City. A restaurant will be added on the south end, next to Global Brew with its own pick-up window for the single-lane drive-through already present.

The Edwardsville City Council voted on Sept. 6 to approve a resolution for an amendment to the development. According to aldermen, the amendment approves two drive-throughs for the credit union and a single-lane pick-up window for the impending restaurant on the property's south end, next to Waxing the City. Only the detached building's drive-through was originally allowed.

There is an existing GCS Credit Union on Goshen Road just east of Quik Trip, however, no GCS marketing staff members were available Friday afternoon to confirm whether this is a replacement site or if the branches will co-exist. They are about a mile apart.

The company's main office is located in Granite City and besides the Edwardsville branch, there are GCS satellite locations in Granite City, Pontoon Beach (drive-through only), Collinsville, O'Fallon, Alton and Fairmont City.

These will be the Ironworks site's probable final two pieces, pending what else moves into the credit union's building. Starting in 2018, Ironworks has proved popular with area customers and attracted unique, new places to the area.
