The centerpiece of an 11.69-acre estate for sale in the woods in McKean Township is a barbell-shaped home. Hallways connect the twin circular sections.

The four-bedroom, four-bath home at 9774 Silverthorn Road is owned by Erie businessman and entrepreneur Samuel P. "Pat" Black III and is for sale for $1,375,000.

The house is one of a kind, said Steve Szumigale, real estate associate with Re/Max Real Estate Group, Erie. Szumigale is the listing agent for the property.

"I've been in approximately 5,000 homes over 12 years, and my mom has been in 25,000 to 30,000 homes since 1990, and neither of us has seen anything like this house," Szumigale said. "It's over-the-top incredible."

The 9,450-square-foot home was designed by Deltec Homes, a North Carolina firm specializing in round homes, and was built in 2002.

"Incredible" features include circular, wood-plank ceilings, interior courtyard, and an indoor greenhouse, jacuzzi and pool. Because of its circular design, the home's exterior walls and most of its interior walls are curved; rectangular spaces are primarily reserved for closets and storage rooms ― and both abound.

The open concept interior includes a first-floor living room with floor-to-ceiling windows and stone fireplace. An elevator brings firewood up from the basement. A library loft overlooks the room.

The curved galley-style kitchen features stainless steel appliances and sleek wood cabinets. There's also a first-floor "Hawaiian room," or sunroom, and three-car garage.

Upstairs, the master wing includes an exercise room with stone fireplace, kitchenette and doors to an outdoor walkway and stairs.

The master suite has a fireplace and two walk-in closets. The large master bath features stone walls, double sinks and toilets, and skylights over a marble-surround bath. A curved glass-block wall encloses a walk-in shower.

There's also a round meditation room.

Outdoor living space includes multiple patios and decks. The grounds include a multi-level koi pond and a large pond fitted out with fountains, gazebo and deck.

"What I particularly like about the house and property is the serene nature of the entire experience," said Laura Guncheon, vice president of project management for Erie Management Group, of which Black is the founder and CEO. "Any way you look, you're surrounded by natural beauty. It's a place where you can experience the best of all four seasons."

The home has geothermal heating, indoor water storage tanks, an ultraviolet water purification system, security system, outbuildings, and a sophisticated electrical system. Extensive exterior lights can be controlled even from the master bedroom. A generator keeps the lights on during power failures.

"The property is basically its own little world," Szumigale said.

Annual property taxes in 2021 were $16,589, according to Zillow.com.
